Cannon County Trustee Norma Knox is proud to announce beginning October 1, 2013, the office will accept partial payments during the collection period of October 1, 2013, though February 28, 2014, before penalties are applied. You must come to the office to sign an agreement. Options available:

  1. Divide the total bill equally over the number of months to pay: 2, 3, 4, 5 months, or
  2. Accept the partial payment amount the taxpayer Wants to apply to the property tax bill

Days and hours for the Trustee ofñce remain the same, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; and 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. Keep in mind that self-addressed stamped envelopes are required for return of receipts.

Current year taxes run from January lst through the last day of December, and they are due and payable beginning October 1 through the last day of February the following year Without interest and penalty. This office does accept postmarked payments; make sure your envelope is postmarked by the last day of February. After that date, property taxes become delinquent and begin to accrue 1.5% penalty and interest on the ñrst day of each month. On April lst, prior year delinquent taxes are turned over to Clerk & Master in Chancery Court for collection. For more information you may contact the Clerk & Master at (615)563-5936.

This office will assist elderly, qualifying Veterans or their Widows, and disabled taxpayers in application and certification procedures With the Tennessee State Property Tax Relief Program. For qualifying applicants, the State of Tennessee will pay a portion of the property taxes due on their home. The deadline to make application for current year taxes is 35 days after the deadline date, last day of February.

The Property Assessor is responsible for assessing a fair market value on your property on which you pay taxes. If your mailing address should change, please notify the Property Assessor at (615)563-5437.

Your County Commissioners are responsible for setting the tax dollar rate for each $100 of assessed Value, and they also make the decision of Where tax dollars are spent. For the current year 2015, the tax rate is $2.53, and is spent as follows:

  • $1.26 General County Purposes
  • $.16   Solid Waste/Sanitation
  • $.88   General Purpose Schools
  • $.03   General Debt Service
  • $.20   Ambulance Service
  • $2.53 Total

In addition to collection of all property taxes (real and personal, tangible and intangible), the Trustee Office serves as treasurer for the receiving of all county money, paying out of funds, and investment of idle funds.
